Board an overnight ferry bound for Norway this afternoon. A guided tour includes a stop at the stunning new Oslo Opera House, which opened in 2008. Join your local guide for a tour of the Viking Ship Museum on the Bygdøy Peninsula, featuring ships and artifacts from the Viking era; if you wish, visit the Kon-Tiki or Fram museums as well. Holmenkollen has been the site of a world-famous ski jump for more then a century; visit its new ski jump facility opening in 2010, and have lunch. This masterpiece of Norwegian engineering is one of the world’s steepest railway lines on normal gauge; descend 2,600 feet from waterfalls to ravines to sheer cliffs! Visit it, then drive to Gudvangen for a ferry cruise and lunch on the Naeroyfjord, one of Norway’s narrowest fjords; visit the Norwegian Glacier Center. Spend the next three nights at a mountain resort on the spectacular Nordfjord; dig into a barbecue dinner tonight. Overnight: Hotel Alexandra, Loen, Norway Meals Included: Breakfast, lunch, dinner Day 10: Visit to Briksdal Glacier Journey to Briksdal Glacier, among Norway’s most inspirational natural wonders. Ride aboard a “Troll Car” past thundering waterfalls, then take a short hike to the foot of the glacier for astounding views. After a family-style lunch, return to Loen to explore, swim or enjoy your resort’s spa amenities, attend a lecture and have dinner. Your hotel is within walking distance of the historic wharf district, Bryggen, dating back to the days of the Hanseatic League. Overnight: Radisson Blu Hotel Norge, Bergen, Norway Meals Included: Breakfast, lunch Day 13: Bergen / Troldhaugen Bergen is the gateway to the fjords, characterized by its location on the water and a centuries-old legacy of sea trade, which you’ll explore on a guided city tour.
